Q.What
is the benefit of working out with free weights compared
to machines?
A. Our
philosophy at ABSolutely Fit is for you not to feel intimidated
at all times while working out. Your personal "comfort zone" should
be respected. Many people especially women, tend to shy away
from big heavy machines avoiding the weight training that they
need for their bodies It is very important to have a proper weight
training program as part of your exercise regimen, along with
a cardiovascular routine We know that women, once taught will
feel comfortable using free weights.
Our
professional opinion is that women respond to free weight training
better than machines for leaning and toning. It also protects
them from common related problems, like exercise induced injuries
and also slows down OSTEOPOROSIS. It has been documented
by many publications, that women should be performing light weight/heavy
repetition exercises. We know from experience that teaching you
to work out with free weights along with various floor exercises
like squats, lunges etc., the best way to train you. ABSolutely!
The
owners of ABSolutely Fit have been teaching and working
out in the style for years. We practice what we preach and we
see the results on a daily basis with ourselves and of course
our clientele.
We
also want to encourage you to take your workout on vacation and
what better way then to just reach for a set of light weights
and begin your workout that we have taught you. That's all you
need to keep fit and stay in shape while vacationing. Of course,
watching what you eat too. We know that it's a vacation and you
do deserve a special treat.
Our Personal
Training programs will
guide you and teach you how to use Free Weights along with
many other exercises for a complete full body workout.
"Our
goal is to teach you proper form and techniques to avoid injuries
to your lower back, knees and other weight bearing joints" says
Dr. Wendy Schonfeld a Chiropractor and co-owner of ABSolutely
Fit. |

Q. I
enjoy Spinning but don't want to build bulky thighs. If I keep
the resistance low, can I still get great fitness benefits without
building up my thighs?
A. Pedaling
with low resistance all the time is not going to give you optimal
fitness benefits. Don't worry about developing monster thighs. The
size of your quadriceps depends a lot more on your genetics than
on your training regimen. "People in my classes get so worked up about this issue",
says Riley McAlpine, a personal trainer and Spinning instructor at
Revolution Fitness in Santa Monica, Ca. "I tell them that my big
legs are from my mother. You can Spin just as much as I do and your
legs won't look like this." McAlpine points out that professional
cyclists come in all shapes and sizes. "If you look at two pros
who train the same way and have the same fitness level, one might have
really skinny quads other might be Quadzilla," she says.
Cranking up the resistance will help you develop power in your
thighs and standing also puts your abdominal muscles, as well as
your lats, triceps and biceps, into play. "If you Spin easily all the time, your body will get used to the movement
and stop responding,"
McAlpine says. "The more you mix it up the better." |

Q. I've
heard that spinning or performing any other aerobic exercise
is better for you if you are wearing a heart rate monitor. Is
that true and why?
A. Yes
it is true. Overexertion is a primary cause of injury and fatigue.
Using a heart rate monitor during any cardiovascular activity keeps
you exercising safely in your zone. Whether your goal is weight-loss,
burning body fat, or just staying fit and healthy, a heart rate monitor
allows you to exercise at your optimum heart rate. The use of heart
rate monitor also teaches YOU to be IN CONTROL of your
heart rate, which is the key to working out in just the right way to
meet YOUR individual fitness goals. We, at ABSolutely Fit,
strongly advise all members - beginners and advanced, to wear Heart
Rate Monitors for the best AEROBIC workout possible. |
